Jeff was born in the UK, but has been residing in South Africa since 1981 where initially he was employed at Sasol in Secunda and was responsible for the instrumentation and control systems on five Sasol units.
 

Educated in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, he obtained an ONC in electrical engineering as well as serving a full apprenticeship as an instrument mechanic. From there, he was employed as a field service and commissioning engineer for Elliot Automation, later to become part of Fisher Controls. This involved travelling throughout the UK gaining exposure to many industries and different types of equipment. The practical shop floor and field experience gained has proved invaluable.


He later moved on to Babcock Engineering and Davy international as senior instrument engineer, overseeing projects in Botswana and in the steel industry.He obtained his first fulltime training position at Fisher Rosemount as training manager presenting courses on the DeltaV and RS3 DCS systems as well as giving client support where necessary.
 

He was then offered a position as training consultant with Rockwell Automation with whom he has been associated 13 years. He has recently completed a long term assignment for Rockwell in Nigeria, commissioning a power management system for a gas to liquid project.
 

In 2005, he spent time in Germany at Hirschmann who are one of the world leaders in Ethernet technology. He was trained as a full support and training engineer, the first in Africa. Jeff has over 40 years experience in his field, and has carried out project support and training in many African countries and the Middle East.
