Danie Stoop

Danie was born in South Africa in 1964 and played with electronics since his school days. He obtained the B. Eng. Electrical and Electronic degree from the former Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (PU for CHE).
Danie worked in industry for a year and then joined the same university’s School for Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering as lecturer. In 1992, he began his own electronic consultancy business named Dantron, which is an acronym of his own name and the term “electronics”.
In 1997 he won the University’s VERKA competition for best lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering. During the years he lectured, he conducted research in TCP/IP based digital communications for which he obtained a Masters degree Cum Laude in 1999 and pioneered a programmable logic laboratory, sponsored by Xilinx from the USA, amongst others.
Danie’s design experience includes many facets of electronic and embedded systems and -programming for applications such as protocol converters between a variety of protocols.
During 2000, Danie moved over to the operations division of the university, where he gained extensive operational and management experience. In 2011, Danie was awarded for the most innovative contribution towards the Northwest University’s management systems and currently holds the position as Head of Electrical and Electronic Services at the university. Here he gained extensive experience in specifying, installing and maintaining a wide variety of corporate electrical, electronic and security systems.
Danie still engages in the academic world from time to time as external examiner or moderator.
He is currently enrolled in a leadership academy to further hone his management skills.
Danie resides in the university city of Potchefstroom and is married to Marlise. They have three sons. He enjoys doing woodwork in his (very little) spare time.
